The Attorney General’s Chambers of the Ministry of Legal Affairs on Thursday received a quantity of legal texts valued at more than £2 million from the Guyana United Kingdom Law Association, the Government Information Agency (GINA) said in a press release.
Brian Horne making the donation on behalf of the association said: “It is my privilege to be here and to be able to hand over these books to the Attorney General…I hope that I might be in the position to do more than this in due course…”
The books contain information on legal practices in the UK, so Guyanese practitioners will be able to have updated guidance on varying aspects of law.
Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs Anil Nandlall in receiving the donation remarked that it was an invaluable one.
“It is a well known saying that a lawyer’s most important asset is his books…we have received a number of very important volumes which we are grateful for… We have been the beneficiary of several donations over the years of very important books which have been a welcome addition to our library and [these have] been of tremendous help to the lawyers working in the Chambers,” Nandlall said.
The engagement was started by the then Chancellor of the Judiciary Desiree Bernard several years ago.
Nandlall also recognised the input of the Guyana High Commissioner in London who plays a pivotal role in organising the donations and lends his offices to the association for them to host meetings which plan ways in which they can assist Guyana, the release added.
