Come Saturday, a workshop sponsored by a law firm and rights groups will be convened to address the impact of Chief Justice Ian Chang’s ruling in the Henry Greene matter and the operation of the Sexual Offences Act on victims of sexual offences.
Hughes, Fields & Stoby has teamed up with Red Thread, the Guyana Human Rights Association and Help and Shelter to hold a workshop at the St Stanislaus College at 1:30 pm and the general public is invited.
The presenters at the forum will be University of Toronto lecturer Dr Alissa Trotz, psychologist Dr. Faith Harding, UWI lecturer Dr. Arif Bulkan, women rights activist Karen De Souza and attorney Ulele Burnham.
Justice Chang’s ruling, which threw out the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Shalimar Ali-Hack to charge Greene with rape, has triggered vigorous and heated discussions on the impact it may have on future rape investigations.
