Demerara Cricket Club’s `A’ team beat tournament leaders Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) by four wickets last week-end as the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Brainstreet U-15 competition continued.
DCC owed the victory in no small measure to a fine all round performance from Travis Persaud whose efforts undermined a composed 85 from GYO captain Bhaskar Yadram.
Yadram guided GYO to a score of 9 for 157 from their allotment of 55 overs.
He struck eight fours and five sixes as Persaud collected 4 for 21 from 11 overs.
Persaud, who made 57, then steadied the chase with Michael Deonarine (31) to steer DCC’s chase home in 36.4 overs despite Gandhi’s Navendra Persaud finishing with figures of 9-1-42-4.
Demerara Cricket Club’s `B’ side continued to play impressive cricket as well as they notched up another victory, this time over the GCA Ladies.
In a low scoring affair, DCC’s `B’ team were bowled out for just 117 in 44 overs with only Clevon McEwan getting to a significant score. He made 30 while extras outscoring him with 38.
Joanne Vansertima had 3 for 34 and Onika Wallerson 2 for 24 for the Ladies, who could only manage 53 all out as consistent bowling from Akash Samuels (3 for 2), Angad Rupee (2 for 2), Dennison Evans (2 for 6) and Xaviee Smith (2 for 8) proved too much for them.
In GYO’s other game last weekend they were defeated by the Georgetown Cricket Club by three wickets. Batting first GYO scored 8 for 163 off their 55 overs with Dwayne Debarros (30) being the principal scorer.
Extras once again contributed a team’s top score with 40.
Shamar Graham had 3 for 33.
GCC began their chase solidly with openers Raymond Perez (48) and Samuel McKenzie (34) providing a start of 98 runs. Vanuns Kissoon bowled well in the middle overs to finish with 3 for 8 from five overs for GYO.
And, Transport Sports Club won a close encounter against Demerara Cricket Club’s `A’ team by just four runs. TSC scored 134 thanks to Shazim Khan (54) and Joshua Ram (32) as Keanu Henry grabbed 3 for 25 for DCC `A’. Despite a good start from openers Tevin Imlack (56) and Clitus Johnson (27), DCC `A’ were unable to achieve victory as Joshua Ram (2 for 11), Reon Sumair (2 for 32), Travis Marcellino (2 for 34) and Anand Persaud (2 for 8) contributed to their team’s upset victory.
DCC `B’ though, ensured their club could still boast of victory as they defeated Everest Cricket Club by 19 runs. DCC `B’ scored 9 for 187 in 55 overs thanks to solid contributions from consistent openers Ronaldo Renee (47) and Clevon McEwan (43).
Some 52 extras aided DCC `B’s cause.
They then dismissed Everest for 168 to undermine the efforts of Sherfane Rutherford and Hardat Singh who both made 43 and Vidyanand Dudnauth (33).
DCC `B’s hero with the ball was Ashmead Nedd who took 4 for 37.
