The owners of the Oasis Café have ventured into fine dining with the launch of ‘Oasis Paradiso,’ a new Friday night restaurant experience.
Every week, the 125 Carmichael Street café is transformed into ‘Oasis Paradiso,’ offering up a variety of cuisine influenced by Italian cooking.
Proprietors William and Nisa Walker said that finding a fine dining service to be rare here, they decided to pursue the venture. “We serve lunch during the day and we decided to start offering dinner and we do that one day a week, that’s Friday evening so what we do is we magically transform Oasis Café into Oasis Paradiso,” Mrs Walker explained, adding that the response has been quite favourable, with full bookings since the launch four weeks ago.
Her husband noted that several pastas are included on the menu, along with seafood, steak and lamb, among other dishes, as they try to bring their own unique flare to fine dining. “Not too much chicken. You see, chicken is everywhere, we want to move away from that,” he said.
Apart from the food, which is prepared by Mrs Walker herself, Mr Walker noted that Oasis Paradiso offers the best selection of wines that can be found around town.
When asked why persons should select Oasis Paradiso to have their special dinner or gathering, the couple agreed that it is not about the competition but the pride they take in delivering the best of services.
“We just want to offer customers really good food… this is something really special. We try to create a special atmosphere with candles and things to make it a little cosy and romantic,” she said, while noting that they not only cater for couples but families and groups as well.
Dinner is served from 7:30pm to 11 pm every Friday. The Prix fixe menu, which includes a three-course meal with coffee or tea, costs $7,000. Although not required, customers are advised to make reservations. Take-away services are also offered.
