The unbeaten Hikers have taken an unassailable lead in the John Fernandes Insurance Services second division hockey league after All Greys slumped to their first defeat against Old Fort in a second round encounter.
Old Fort stopped All Greys 5-4 in a tough match up Monday afternoon at the GCC ground, Bourda.
The Old Fort side who had suffered a humiliating 6-0 loss to debutants Saints Saturday took revenge on the experienced All Greys who had beaten them in the first round 4-3.
Troy Leitch netted a double for the South Rumveldt-based team including the game’s opening goal which came in the 13th minute.
Former national defender Damon Woodroffe equalised for All Greys in the 18th minute but Onassis Fraser pushed Old Fort back into the lead in the 29th minute before Woodroffe tied the score again three minutes later for a 2-2 half time score.
At the resumption, Terry Shaw placed Old Fort into the lead once again n the 39th minute only to see it vanish when former national midfield player Alan Fernandes scored for All Greys in the 41st minute.
But strikes by Omar Hopkinson and Leitch pushed Old Fort further ahead by the 58th minute of play before Sheldon Corlette pulled one back for the veterans in the 60th minute as Old Fort recorded a hard-fought victory.
Hikers lead the points table with 15 points followed by All Greys on nine.
GCC and Old Fort are tied on seven points apiece while Saints and Airbenders have three points each following their victories over the weekend. All Greys will be in action again against Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) on Friday at Bourda. Bully off is at 16:46 hours.
