The Guyana Defence Force today airlifted injured Mark Gonzales from Kuribrong, Cuyuni/Mazaruni to Georgetown.
A release from the GDF said that on arrival at Base Camp Ayanganna, Gonzales was immediately handed over to a doctor and other medical personnel who took him off to Woodlands Hospital.
The release said that the 18-year old sustained injuries when a tree branch struck him on the head. The release said that he was at the time a member of a survey team engaged in cutting lines for mining blocks in the area. He is an employee of Mohabir Surveyors which is contracted to JAPARTS.
GDF helicopter commander, Major Courtney Byrne, said in the release that the GDF was called into action sometime at about 2 pm by officials of JAPARTS who had learned of the incident moments before that.
