Police say that at about 0005h today, gold miner James Williams, 33 years, and his reputed wife Precious Hunte were at their home at North Ruimveldt Squatting Area, Georgetown, when they were aroused by noise in the house.
Upon checking they were confronted by two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun and who discharged a round which struck Precious Hunte to her left ankle. The perpetrators then took away a bag containing $400,000 and escaped.
Hunte has been admitted to the GPHC for medical treatment.
Investigations are in progress.
