An old rivalry is set to continue this weekend in the Carib Beer and Friends of Cricket Heroes Cup this weekend as the Demerara Cricket Club takes on Malteenoes Sports Club at the DCCC ground, Queenstown. The game holds much promise as several national players are expected to be involved. DCC’s national trio of Christopher Barnwell, Trevon Griffith and wicket keeper Derwin Christain are all likely to play alongside aggressive opener and son of former West Indies ‘A’ and Guyana opener Andrew Lyght, Andrew Lyght Jnr. The Malteenoes line up will possibly be boosted by the return of skipper Steven Jacobs, while Orin Forde and former opener Imran Hassan are expected to return, alongside former under 19 players Seon Daniels and Kwame Crosse. The game commences at 9.30 am and, with the game scheduled to last just two days, instead of the three it used to be, teams will be aiming to gain an early first innings lead to force an outright win.
At Camp Ayanganna, Gandhi Youth Organization will take on Transport Sports Club in the other Heroes Cup game set for this weekend. Transport will be looking to rebound from defeat in their last game while GYO will look to players such as Shaieed Mohamed, Leon Scott and Abilash Dookie to bring them victory.
The Brainstreet Under 15 Tournament continues this weekend as this generation begin its journey to become the next breed of local and West Indian cricketers. The tournament has picked up momentum since its first round in which a century was scored and teams are now interestingly poised as the preliminary stages draw to a close.
