CHENNAI, India, CNC – Marlon Samuels outshone fellow West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo but his Pune Warriors still went down to Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League on Thursday.
Sent in at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai tallied 164 for five off their 20 overs before limiting the Warriors to 151 for seven, to emerge with a 13-run win.
Bravo got just 12 in the Chennai innings but openers Faf du Plessis (58) and Subramaniam Badrinath (57) slammed half-centuries in a 116-run stand to lay a foundation for the innings.
Samuels claimed three for 39 from four overs of off-spin.
The right-hander then returned to stroke 26 from 24 balls for Pune, dominating a 33-run, fifth wicket stand with Australian Steve Smith (23).
Samuels eventually perished when he slashed off-spinner Ravi Ashwin to Sri Lankan Nuwan Kulasekara at cover in the 14th over.
Medium pacer Bravo finished with two for 28, with the last of his strikes accounting for dangerman Angelo Matthews (27) off the first ball of the last over.
