Gold bands simple larceny accused put on $100,000 bail

A man who allegedly broke into a house and made off with two gold bands was granted bail in the sum of $100,000 yesterday by acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry after he pleaded not guilty to simple larceny.

The court heard that on April 9, Noel McAlmont allegedly broke and entered the home of Nigel Gentle at Banks DIH Housing Scheme and stole two gold bands valued $55,000.

According to the particulars as read by Police Prosecutor Lionel Harvey, on the day in question Gentle secured his premises and went out and when he returned he found the accused there and pulled him out.

The accused then began calling for his mother. However, checks were made and the articles stated in charge were found to be missing.

There were no objections to bail by the prosecution but it was requested that the amount should be substantial.  The next date set for McAlmont’s court appearance is April 30.
