Orville Hinds won his first signature race in his budding cycling career on Sunday when he sped off with this year’s second annual Ansa Mc AL/Tropical Rhythm sponsored Roraima Bikers Club organized 60-mile road race.
Hinds who hails from the mining town of Linden won the event which started at Ansa McAL’s head office at Beterverwagting and proceeded to Mahaicony before ending at the starting point, in two hours, four minutes and 14 seconds.
He led Olympic hopeful Alonzo Greaves, junior rider Raynauth Jeffrey, Robin Persaud, another Olympic hopeful Geron Williams and differently abled Walter Grant-Stewart into the top six.
Hinds also rode off with half of the 10 prime prizes that were up for grabs while two primes went to Jeffrey and one each to Greaves, last year’s winner Warren ‘40’ McKay and junior rider Raul Leal.
The top three junior finishers were Jeffery, Leal and Paul DeNobrega.
Totaram Harris won the veterans category followed by Talim Baksh and Kennard Lovell.
The mountain bike winner was Keon Thomas while Andre Petty and McKel Diaz pedaled in second and third respectively.
The top six seniors, three juniors, three veterans and three mountain bike finishers received monetary prizes.
