Everest defeated the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Ladies by 53 runs at the Muslim Youth Organization ground on Saturday in the Georgetown Cricket Association’s Brainstreet Under-15 competition.
Everest owed their win mainly because of a fine all round performance from Hardat Singh who scored 56 and took 2 wickets for 16 runs from eight overs.
His score, along with a whopping 37 extras, propelled Everest to 155 all out as Jocell Joseph grabbed 5-24 from 4.1 overs for GCA Ladies.
In reply, the GCA Ladies, aided by 37 extras, were bowled out for 102 as all rounder Sherfane Rutherford took 3 for 29.
At Queenstown, Demerara Cricket Club’s `A’ team continued to stamp its authority by defeating Georgetown Cricket Club by nine wickets. Batting first GCC were dismissed for 54 as Daniel Basdeo picked up 3 for 17. Travis Persaud sent down 10 overs for three runs and picked up two wickets.
DCC, on the back of a quickfire innings of 30 not out with seven fours from Clitus Johnson raced to victory.
At the Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) ground, DCC `B’ failed to replicate the `A’ team’s effort as they went down to GYO.
Captain Bhaskar Yadram led the way in GYO’s score of 5 for 231 with 85 while Gopaul Ramgobin made 44. Extras contributed an even half century. Yadram returned with the ball to collect 3 for 3 from 5.1 overs while Navendra Seeraj bowled well to get 4 for 19 from 9 overs as DCC were bowled out for 123. Apart from extras (48) only Chetnarine Pooran (23) made a significant score to add to his 3 for 38 in GYO’s innings.
Transport Sports Club rolled over Malteenoes Under 15 side by 177 runs at YMCA, Camp Road. TSC racked up 227 runs, boosted by 66 extras and 81 from Joshua Ram.
Ewart Samuels and Travis Marcellino made 24 each while Steve Mangal took 3 wickets for Malteenoes, who played with nine players and were dismissed for an even 50. Samuels finished with figures of 5-0-12-3 while Marvin Duncan finished with 5-1-13-3.
On Sunday, Everest defeated GYO by 5 wickets at the GYO ground. GYO made 9 for 161 from their 55 overs with Stephon Campbell making 51.
Extras contributed 49. Everest’s Devendra Mohabir collected 4 for 24 from 11 overs. Captain Sherfane Rutherford and Hardat Singh spearheaded the chase as they made 54 and 41 respectively.
Queen’s College denied club team Malteenoes their first victory as they recorded a close win. MSC made 91 all out with captain Shaquille Moseley scoring 29 and off spinner Jayadev Mana collecting another five wicket haul to end with 5 for 19. QC scraped to 91 for 8 as Moseley took 5 for 34 taking MSC to the brink of victory.
Bel Air Texaco sprung a surprise when they defeated Transport by 86 runs at GNIC. Thakur Pooran made a quick 82 in 76 balls with five sixes and eight fours while Shane Madhoo scored 50 and Akshay Rampersaud 31 as Bel Air piled on 7 for 261. In an exceptional all-round effort, Rampersaud picked up 7 for 39 as only Kevin Marks (38) passed 30 for TSC, who were bowled out for 175 (inclusive of 63 extras) in 39.3 overs.
