The Junior Chamber International (JCI) Guyana yesterday launched its 52nd JCI West Indies National Convention at a simple ceremony held at the boardroom of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, on Main Street.
The convention, which is scheduled for October 11th to 14th, will be held under the theme ‘Promoting Active Citizenship in JCI’ at the Princess International Hotel at Providence.
This will be the fourth occasion the convention would be held in Guyana.
Members from the West Indies’ JCIs along with JCIs from the United States and Canada are expected to participate in the event, which will include activities such as a flag raising ceremony, a business day, community projects and social activities such as an Island night, a Guyana night and outdoor fun day.
JCI Guyana is a non-governmental organisation that comprises approximately thirty members within the ages of 18 to 40, who are trained to be well-rounded individuals who contribute to the community through volunteering. Permanent Secretary of the Sports Ministry Alfred King acknowledged the efforts of JCI to engage young people in Guyana to help them make something meaningful of themselves. King also said that despite operating on limited resources, JCI and other youth groups should focus more on using the limited resources available to them to make more significant impact in society.
President of JCI Deondra Wishart said that her organisation is very optimistic about the event and is looking forward to benefit from all that is planned.
