Linden Technical Institute (LTI) came from behind to down Christianburg Wismar Secondary School 63-50 to claim the Victory Valley Royals Schools Championship at the Mackenzie Sports Club Hard Courts in Linden last Thursday evening.
In the first half, LTI’s Linden Fraser picked up four quick fouls putting him on the bench to watch the remainder of the half as Christianburg worked its magic in the paint to end the first half with a nine-point lead (31-22).
However, Stanley McIntosh who scored a game high 20 points led LTI’s surge in the second-half along with improved play from Fraser who managed to go the entire second-half without commiting a foul helping to solidify LTI’s interior defence.
Joe Webster and Fraser ended with 15 and nine points respectively to help LTI capture the trophy and bragging rights as the best school in Linden.
Meanwhile, Emmanuel Archibald who had been Christainburg’s main player averaging 20 points per game, was locked down by LTI’s Jemmar Bethune, limiting him to just 12 points for the game.
Terron Welch, who tried to shoot Christianburg back into the game in the final minutes of the loss ended with just 12 points.
McIntosh was named the finals Most Valuable Player (MVP) while Archibald with an aggregate of 138 points received the scoring title.
As customary five outstanding players were selected by the organizers of the tournament, McIntosh, Fraser, Archibald, Webster and Traven Dryden – and were outfitted with Louis Webster All-Star T-Shirts.
In the third place play-off, Linden Foundation Secondary School walked all over last year’s winners, Mackenzie High School 65-40.
