Reggae Royalty, Damian ‘Jr Gong’ Marley, and his band are set to headline the opening of the Guyana Food, Arts & Music (FAM) Festival billed for May 26 and 27 at the National Stadium.
According to a press release from Guyenterprise, which says it is producing the event in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, the Ministry of Tourism and its corporate partners, the Grammy award winning son of Reggae legend Bob Marley is the biggest star of over 20 live acts, both local and international, expected to perform over the two days.
Supporting acts for Jr Gong on May 26 are First Born, Alabama, Mystic, Jory and others.
On Sunday night, there will be a Soca Chutney concert featuring Rikki Jai, D Hitman, Sally Sagram, Adrian Dutchin, Jumo, Shelly G, Fiona, Priya and King Shepherd among others.
Guyenterprise says it expects the Guyana FAM Festival to have an audience of 15,000 – 25,000. On offer at the festival will be: cultural mini villages depicting clothing, food, music and craft of our African, Amerindian, Indian and Chinese heritage; food booths with authentic Guyanese cuisine and interactive cooking demonstrations; food booths from neighbouring countries (Brazil, Suriname, Venezuela, Trinidad, Barbados & Jamaica); art, craft and fashion displays; stage shows and cultural events ending with a music concert each night; a
talent stage; tourism booth; artiste merchandise booth and a kids’ zone among other things.
The festival starts at 14:00 hrs each day and ends around midnight; after festival celebrations would be held every night at locations to be announced.
Ticket prices for the festival are: Single Day entry for adults – $3000; Single Day entry for children – $1500; Two-Day Passes for adults – $5000; Two-Day passes for children – $2500; VIP tickets – $20,000 and Two-Day VIP Passes – $35,000. These ticket costs may increase closer to the event date and at the venue, the release said.
