A man accused of stealing a BlackBerry cell phone from a woman on Regent Street, Georgetown, was yesterday remanded to prison by acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry when he appeared in the George-town Magistrates Court and pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Devon Claude allegedly stole one BlackBerry cell phone from Devyani Samlall on April 28 on Regent Street.
According to the particulars of the charge read by Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Lionel Harvey, on the day in question Samlall had just finished using her phone and placed it in her bag, when the accused held onto the bag, removed the phone and then ran into City Mall at Regent and Camp streets where he was subsequently caught and the phone recovered from his person.
The prosecution objected to bail citing the prevalence of the offence in that part of the city.
Claude has to return to court on May 7.
