A miner who allegedly had ganja in his possession at Wismar for the purpose of trafficking was put on $50,000 bail yesterday by acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry when he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Roy Newton, a 37-year-old miner, was accused of having in his possession six grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking on April 28 at Burnham Drive Wismar, Linden.
According to the particulars of the charge read by Police Prosecutor Sergeant Lionel Harvey, on the day in question at about 1.30 pm police conducted a search which unearthed a black plastic bag that contained the substance. Newton pleaded not guilty to the charge.
There were no objections to bail from the prosecution and the case was transferred to the Christianburg Magistrate’s Court for May 8.
