(Barbados Nation) Add another CAN$2 million to the fight against the illegal drug and firearms trade in the Caribbean.
Canada’s Minister of State in their Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Diane Ablonczy, was the bearer of gifts yesterday, revealing her country would spend CAN$1.2 million (BDS$2.4 million) to establish the Regional Security System Law Enforcement Training Institute, and another CAN$ 800 000 (BDS$1.6 million) to establish a Regional Integrated Ballistic Information Network for the Caribbean basin.
Ablonczy made the revelation yesterday, as Canada’s Governor General Dave Johnston concluded an official two-day visit to Barbados with a special visit to the Barbados Defence Force’s St Anns headquarters, where he met with Chief of Staff Colonel Alvin Quintyne and RSS officials.
“Through projects like these, Barbados and Canada continue to strengthen our relationship, and work together to build an even brighter future for our families, our countries, and the Americas,” Ablonczy said during an official ceremony to welcome Johnston.
