Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton granted a 17-year-old boy charged with assaulting his aunt and uncle $15,000 bail while the said relatives were each placed on $10,000 bail for using abusive and threatening abusive language towards him, when the case was heard on Wednesday.
The Georgetown Magistrate’s Court heard that on May 1, at Delph Street, Campbellville, Navindra Soodoo assaulted Nalini Soodoo and Ramesh Persaud. The court also heard that Nalini Soodoo had allegedly made use of abusive language to her nephew and Persaud had threatened him.
Navindra Soodoo’s attorney, Mohamed Zafar, asked the court to grant his client bail.
Police Prosecutor Corporal Simone Payne did not object to bail. Payne noted that the parties reside in the same yard. Nalini Soodoo and Ramesh Persaud reside in the top storey of a house while Navindra Soodoo and his disabled father live in the bottom flat.
Bail was granted after the parties agreed not to have any contact among them while the matter is engaging the attention of the court. The case was adjourned to May 8.
