It has been two weeks since phone lines in the vicinity of second and third Streets, Cummingslodge have been vandalized by some mischievous persons, who had no other goal, but to disrupt the lives of other people for their own gain. This is not the first time this has happened, but I guess because of this, GT&T has not taken the time to come down to fix the disconnected lines. Complaints were lodged within days of the incident, however, I find it distasteful for the premier phone network in Guyana to “still be working on it” two weeks later. I presume that they expect every single person affected to make a claim before they intervene.
Because of this sad situation, many persons have resorted to using their cell phones for making much needed phone calls, needless to say, that this may bring some income to the competition if these persons do not own a GT&T handset. If this is not frustrating enough, because of no phone access, the residents using GT&T’s internet service are forced out of the comforts of their home to find somewhere else to view their emails, or do research and assignments in the case of all the University students residing in the area.
Moreover, when it comes time to pay the internet bill, the demand is for full payment or if it was already paid for there are no refunds offered for the service not provided. This is an experience from one resident the last time this transpired.
This I find is unacceptable, depressing and a total disregard to the persons who placed their trust in GT&T to do their job. I truly hope that this could be dealt with in a timely manner so that these citizens can attain normalcy again.
