Dear Editor,
Why is there a need for airstrips on Wakenaam and Leguan? Wakenaam and Leguan are two lovely, peaceful islands located in the Essequibo River where rice and ground provision farming along with coconut picking are the main sources of income for many, if not all residents. It is therefore correct to assume that the most dangerous thing that can happen to a person on these islands is a snake bite. So doesn’t Minister Robeson Benn think that it would be more efficient and economical if the hospitals on these islands were upgraded? A mistake has already been made with reference to the construction of a $54.4M airstrip on Wakenaam, and I therefore beg of the Minister and our government to consider what is being said here and not to make the same mistake on the island of Leguan.
Yours faithfully,
