A man was on Monday sentenced to one year in prison by Magistrate Sueann Lovell at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court for escaping from lawful custody.
Ijan Bryan, 30, escaped from police custody on April 19, 2011 when he was on remand pending investigations into a break and enter and larceny matter.
At the time, Bryan was in a police patrol vehicle proceeding along North Ruimveldt Front Road when a stop was made to check the vehicle which appeared to be having mechanical problems.
Bryan then took the opportunity to escape as ranks exited the vehicle to check on the mechanical problem. The ranks then pursued Bryan who was subsequently apprehended.
