While police are not forthcoming with the local media on their search for the suspects in the Trinidad and Tobago murder of 18-year-old Nikita Ramischand, Trinidad Newsday has reported that officers believe the men have moved from Georgetown to Enterprise, East Coast Demerara.
Nikita, the daughter of prominent Guyana-born Trinidadian attorney, Odai Ramischand, was brutally killed on April 25. The main suspect in her murder is a 25-year-old construction worker who her family had hired three months prior, to complete some work on their property.
The teen had become familiar with the individual and frequently spoke to him on the telephone, Newsday had reported.
A source close to the family had told Stabroek News that the Trinidadian police have disclosed that there were two persons involved in the murder and not one as was originally believed. There are now reports that both men are Guyanese and have both fled here.
Stabroek News yesterday contacted Crime Chief Seelall Persaud, who suggested that the Trinidadian police be contacted for any information as regards the investigation, both in their territory and locally.
He said the Guyana Police Force was asked to carry out a task and he is unaware of what should be revealed and what shouldn’t.
Efforts to contact Police Commissioner (ag), Leroy Brumell, proved futile.
Meanwhile, Newsday reported on May 7, that Brumell and Persaud, along with their team, conducted searches throughout Georgetown but to no avail.
They also reported that Ramischand had relayed, based on information he had received from Guyana, that the parents and other relatives of the main suspect have disappeared from their Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara home. The report further revealed that phone records have disclosed that the main suspect continues to contact his mother.
The newspaper quoted Ramischand as saying “I am frustrated that the police have not been able to find my daughter’s killers when the police were informed where the suspects were and I believe that had they responded swiftly the suspects would have been in police custody by now, unfortunately by that lapse of time the two suspects continue to elude arrest.”
Nikita was believed to have been ambushed while walking to her mother’s salon which is situated in the compound of their LP 46 Maracas Royal Road, Maracas, St Joseph, Trinidad and Tobago home. She was reportedly dragged behind the premises and stabbed to her abdomen. Her bloodied body was discovered behind the salon at about 8 pm.
An autopsy performed by pathologist Dr Eastlyn McDonald-Burris revealed that the teenager bled to death after her throat was slit. She also suffered six stab wounds to the abdomen.
