A popular city barber is now a patient in critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital, after he was severely beaten last night by two men who posed as customers.
Navin (only name given), proprietor of Blade Works Barber Shop, on Sherriff Street, was attacked at the business sometime around 8:20 pm, after the men entered and indicated they want him to cut their hair.
However, as he was preparing to tend to one of them, the man pulled out a baton and started to lash him to the head while the other one, armed with a gun, rounded up the other barbers and customers.
A barber that works with at the shop, who asked not to be named, told this newspaper that the men had visited the barbershop earlier in the day. He added when the men returned, they indicated that they want ‘Navin’ to cut their hair but as he was preparing to do so, one began beating him with the baton while the other one held the other barbers and customers at gunpoint so they could offer no assistance to him.
This newspaper was told that while beating the barber, his assailant told him “We coming back for the thing in half hour.” The barber, however, denied owing anyone anything and having any feud with anyone. After the beating, the men calmly left the scene.
An official from the hospital told this Stabroek News that the man suffered a broken hand, foot and severe head injuries as a result of the beating. His condition is listed as critical.
