With more focus on ‘Better Living’, year four of Glamorous, the final of the Guyana Model Search/Designers Portfolio is emerging as a much bigger project that the previous years.
According to a press release, ‘Better Living’ involves a special exhibition designed to promote enhanced lifestyles and a full spectrum of possibilities awaits patrons. Set against the idyllic backdrop of Isika, Stanley Ming’s East Bank Essequibo development site, exhibitors will offer products and services, all benefiting upgraded opportunities for better living. “From skin/hair care to home decor, from educational prospects to lifestyle management alternatives, from household amenities to personal conveniences, from career guidance to holistic living, from anti-domestic violence campaigning to AIDS awareness publicity, from sensible financial upkeep to day-to-day maintenance. All the features of this exhibition serve to promote a sense of well-being and balance,” the release said.
The creative nails, make-up and hair for male and female competition are new additions to this year’s event and are open to anyone who would like to display their artistic expressions. Registration is free and interested persons can call 226-3099 for more information.
The emergence of Guyana’s fashion industry has led to strategic alliances facilitating event tourism thrusts, which would ultimately enhance destination marketing drives, the release added.
This year, the Guyana Model Search/Designers’ Portfolio Programme has taken the novel approach of going out to Isika to host the finals.
Stating that the ministries of Agriculture and Tourism and the Guyana Tourism Authority are happy to be on board, CEO Sonia Noel said: “We are ecstatic to have the ministries aligning with us. Hosting the finals out of town is particularly special because it encourages domestic tourism and gives people a chance to travel to another part of Guyana to experience and appreciate the beauty of this land we call home. We are also indicating to the outlying areas that we are coming to them because we want them included in what we are doing as a national event. The feedback has being tremendous and apart from Georgetown and other areas large crowds are expected from West Coast, Essequibo Coast and my hometown Bartica.”
The runway finals will climax the day’s activities on July 1 at Isika, where the top placements in the categories of the show would be announced.
