The 12-year-old boy who was struck down by a minibus earlier this month along the Friendship, East Bank public road, showed the first sign of recovery when he opened his eyes three days ago.
Mohamed ‘Kevin’ Ramnarine, of Lot 37 ‘C’ Dam, Friendship, East Bank Demerara, was on May 1 flung some ten feet away after being hit by a Linden/Soesdyke bus which was at the time transporting passengers to Georgetown.
The child was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre from where he was subsequently transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Doctors had indicated to his family that he was in a very critical condition. He remained in a coma up till Sunday when he opened his eyes for the first time since the accident, giving his mother a little hope.
A relative told Stabroek News on Monday that though the child can barely move and is not talking as yet, the family is at much more ease with him being able to look around and observe his surroundings. She noted that he remains a patient of the Intensive Care Unit where he is still hooked up to several machines while doctors continue to monitor his condition. “The doctors say he coming around …so we feeling much better now,” the woman said.
She stated that she has heard nothing about the driver of the vehicle and is uncertain whether or not the man approached the child’s mother or attempted to visit him at the hospital.
