The man being held in connection with the murder of Corentyne security guard, Karamchand Panchoo has given conflicting information to investigators and is being treated at the prime suspect, Crime Chief Seelall Persaud said yesterday.
Stabroek News had previously reported that two persons were in police custody. However Persaud yesterday clarified that one man is in police custody.
He said that the man in police custody and Panchoo had an ongoing dispute. Persaud said that the suspect has since given false information to the police. “He is a suspect in the matter because nothing was stolen”, the crime chief said.
“Somebody lashed the man (Panchoo) in the head. Is one lash, which is consistent with compulsive action when people lose control’, he said.
Panchoo’s body was found around 00:35 hours on Monday at a poultry farm located at Number 19 Village (Don Robin) Corentyne.
A post mortem will be conducted on his remains today.
