The National Gallery has opened to the public a Book of Remembrance for the late artist and sculptor Phillip Moore in the foyer of Castellani House.
Members of the public are invited to share their memories or comments in paying respects to this great Guyanese artist, the Gallery said in a press release.
Visitors may also view some of the outstanding paintings and sculptures from Moore’s works in the National Collection which will be on show in the two upper storeys of the gallery, initially displayed in honour of his 90th birthday last October.
Also, the Gallery is hosting an independence anniversary exhibition titled ‘Donald Locke and the Artists of the Independence Era’ which starts today. This exhibition will also include Moore and “the close group of leading artists of this period whose imagination and energy created brilliant works which drove the development of Guyanese art at a significant time in our history.”
Moore shared fellowship and membership in classes, groups and exhibitions with his fellow artists including Locke and others in ‘The 1967 Group’ and two works of collaboration between Moore and Locke will be on show, the release said. The exhibition opens tomorrow and will continue until August 31.
The National Gallery opens weekdays from 10am to 5pm and from 2pm to 6pm on Saturdays. It is closed on Sundays and holidays. Admission is free.
