The man who was killed when a vehicle struck him down at Camp Road and Young Street on Monday evening was yesterday identified as 56-year-old Michael Easton of 277 West Ruimveldt.
The man’s sister, Norma Easton, told Stabroek News that she last saw the man when he left their home on Monday around 14:00 hours. “After we miss he on Monday night and ain’t see he Tuesday, I was going to look for him today (Wednesday) and my husband call my phone and said he see an accident in the paper and the unidentified body deh at Lykens,” the woman explained.
She said that her husband urged her to visit the parlour and view the body, suggesting that it might be that of Easton. The body was positively identified as Easton.
The woman said she later visited the police station and gave a statement. There, she said, she was told that the driver was released on bail.
“The police told us the driver take him to the private hospital and he deh pon bail but I don’t know if they gon hold he back,” she noted, adding that the case is being handled by the Brickdam Police Station.
In addition, she stated that the police related to her that her brother was “dead drunk” but the woman said she doubts this is true since the man was never the type to drink. “He don’t drink, the most he would do is take he one, one cigarette,” she said.
She noted that her brother was not employed but would go out daily and roam the streets. “He is just sit down, walk about, come in, cook he food, bathe he skin, dress and gone… He is go out, go by the outpost and they got a shop and sit down there. Sometime he is walk and go till to the seawall,” she said.
Norma described her brother as a very pleasant individual. “He used to have we skinning we teeth when he talk he nonsense. We know he, we understand he and we is look out for he,” she added.
