Ignatius France, the man who was arrested in connection with the murder of twenty-year-old Mark Ashby of Mabaruma, North West District, was brought to the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday on the capital charge of murder and was remanded to prison by Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton.
The court heard that France, also known as Putoo, on May 11 at Canal Bank, Port Kaituma, murdered his brother-in-law Mark Ashby.
According to the case particulars, on the day in question at about 6:30pm, France and his brother-in-law were drinking when a fight ensued and he ran home for a cutlass and subsequently returned and chopped Ashby across his neck.
Police Prosecutor Tracymay Gittens requested that the accused be remanded and the magistrate acceded. The case was transferred to the Matthews Ridge Magistrate’s Court for August 7.
