Dear Editor,
In a statistical release by the GPF Traffic Department published in SN on May 12, they listed the figures and causes of accidents for 2011 while at the same time, comparing them with those of 2010.
However, no mention was made of accidents due to potholed, unlit and flooded roads. Also omitted, were those related to the absence of road traffic signs, non-functioning traffic lights and road markings. Were the abovementioned not considered as serious? Were they purposely omitted? Both the authorities and commuters have their legal and moral roles to play. Then, and only then, traffic safety will be an accident free two-way street.
Yours faithfully,
Roger A Bhulai
