The stage is set for the third annual Modern Optical Inter-Services shooting championships billed for tomorrow at the Timehri ranges.
Seven security organizations will battle for supremacy in the event sponsored by Modern Optical of Middle Street and organized by the Smallbore Section of the Guyana National Rifle Association (GNRA).
The competing teams are – GNRA, Guyana Defence Force (GDF), Guyana Police Force (GPF), Presidential Guards, Bank of Guyana Security, Venezuela Embassy Attaché and Queensway Security.
Ian Rogers who won the overall title last year is expected to defend his title but will face stiff opposition from the other competing shooters including 2010 winner Dr. Johan DaSilva, former smallbore captain Dale Hing, Mohammed Qualander, Grdon Richards, Murtland Smith, Hemant Narine and Ray Beharry.
Small Bore Captain Ryan Mc Kinnon disclosed that each team will be allowed a maximum of eight shooters but the competition will be shot in three stages using 9 mm pistols only.
He said registration will close 10 minutes before the tournament starts.
“Prizes will be awarded to the top three shooters in each stage and the overall top three in each class. Shooters will be classified into A, B and C Class, using the three sectioned stages that make up STAGE 1,”Mc Kinnon revealed.
Registration fee is $2000 per shooter.
Dr. Jose Da Silva, Managing Director of Modern Optical presented the trophies and a sponsorship cheque to officials of the GNRA at a simple ceremony Wednesday at its head office on Middle Street.
GNRA Secretary Ryan Sampson received on behalf of the Association in the presence of GNRA Treasurer Lt. Col. Terry Stuart, Ryan McKinnon and Dr. Johan Da Silva.
Dr. Jose Da Silva said he was extremely pleased to be sponsoring the tournament for the third successive year and said he anticipates another exciting day of shooting.
