Distance athlete Alika Morgan left this morning for Nickerie, Suriname to compete in the second leg of the Telsur 10k race.
Morgan via telephone told Stabroek Sport that she is fully prepared for the meet.
“I am not confident that I will get the challenge that I am looking for but I am prepared for the competition.”
Morgan explained that she is expected to face the same athletes she ran against, claiming the top prize in the first leg of the meet last month in Paramaribo.
According to Morgan this is the first year that she would be competing in the full tournament. Last year she competed in only the first leg of the meet, but was unaware that there was a second leg.
Asked whether the travel will have any effect on her, Morgan said no since it is a short ride from Guyana. She is scheduled to be back in Guyana tomorrow in time to compete in the President’s/Jefford Classic at the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground, Linden.
Asked about her fitness for that meet, Morgan admitted that she is not fully prepared. “I was focusing on the Telsur meet because the incentives are more lucrative than that of Jeffords Classics.”
Morgan said, however, that despite her limited training she is confident that she will hold her on in the meet at Linden.
