Feel the Beat – crunch time!

The final of the first season of the GT&T Feel the Beat Competition is just a day away.  I’m tearing up here because I’m just going to miss separating the clowns from the dazzlers. I have been saying this since the countdown began; there is no space for silly mistakes, flawed synchronisations and stupid personas! This is the finale, and I represent the thousands of Guyanese out there who want a BIG finale!

This week’s review focuses on the transformations and growth of the top 6 contestants and what is expected of them as they go on stage for the very last time. No ratings this week, just my plain comments and overall synopsis.

Jemal
I don’t have to keep saying this; I actually don’t want to keep saying this because I’m getting tired of saying it: Jemal needs to bring something new! I have been seeing the same moves since the premiere! I don’t hate Jemal but I’m just bored of his performances now.

All of the judges agree with me except Jovan Wilson (she is hypnotised by his ‘humbleness’)
Sure Jemal ‘Hip Hopped’ his way to the finals and sure he has the swag; the question is will those same moves win him the title?

Nadata
Two weeks ago I called Nadata “pretty average” only now that I have seen her live I realize that she’s anything but average. She is extraordinary, unique, creative! I asked her in my last review to dazzle me, amaze me! And she was the most outstanding entertainer at the Semis. I don’t know about you readers but I would love to see more of Nadata, I can’t get enough of her and I will demand to see more of her at the finals.
If anyone has ever paid attention to my ratings, Nadata has received the highest of them all. She deserves it. I’m just regretting the terrible reviews she had from me over the weeks. She stepped up her game a lot and I wouldn’t be surprised if she wins.

Quaison
Quaison? Why did it take you so long for me to change my mind about you? You really never impressed me, you seemed so lost without your wife, and you always had these silly excuses, but from now on I see you as the best male of the season! I see Quaison as a definite star.
He is the only contestant whose personas really connect with the audience. Sure his dancehall pieces were great, but his solo Adele interpretation was amazing!
I hope the readers and the other contestants don’t get mad at me for saying this, but I do believe either you or Nadata will win this competition. Both of you have improved significantly.

Adona
My dear mother loves Adona with all her heart (maybe it’s because they’re both short and ferocious alike) but Adona was a big disappointment to me! I’m sorry for being malicious but I have never in my professional career felt so shocked on how someone can let me down. I wanted her to win so much but she just lost her charm, I still love her personality but I don’t see her personality dancing for over $1 million in cash and prizes.
After her last solo performance Clive Prowell told her that she was the energizer bunny who lost her batteries, I hope she finds them before tomorrow night.

Patricia
As I said last week, Patricia exceeded my expectations. From her eccentric Hip Hop routine to her committed solo all the way to the exotic, phenomenal Dancehall – Patricia has certainly busted out from her comfort zone, child bearing has certainly given her the strength and passion she was charged with to actually make an effort to win. My praise goes out to you, Keep up the transformations and energy and I will surely congratulate you if you win.

Dominic
Dominic is just a fantastic dancer – no doubt about that but I keep saying that he cracks under pressure. Why would I say such a thing? Dominic comes on stage and gives it his all when he’s in a group or duo… but he is terrible standing alone! Dominic has received the worse ratings and reviews by both the judges and me for the past 2 weeks. What is baffling is that Dominic can actually dance; he just does not have that way of connecting to anyone but himself.

It’s sad to say that Dominic hasn’t even improved; he is just one straight line heading into the opposite direction.
It truly amazes me how the contestants I loved disappointed me and the ones I never thought could make it… actually have a chance to win.

The Live Finale is set for tomorrow night at the National Cultural Centre and of course The Scene will be there to take its reviews and present vivid descriptions before the show airs next week Sunday. I wonder if we will see more of Daniel Mann – anyone remembers him as much as I do?
