The Indian Cultural Centre will screen the classic film Sangam today at its Lot 67 New Haven, Bel Air premises from 5.30 pm.
According to a press release, Sangam (1964) was directed by Raj Kapoor – and was noted for its colour and epic length even by then Indian standards. The film tells the story of Sundar (Raj Kapoor), Gopal (Rajendra Kumar) and Radha (Vyjayantimala) who have been friends since childhood. The trio grow up,and Sunder falls head-over-heels in love with Radha, but she as well as her parents reject him. The friendships develop into a complex love triangle as Radha eventually marries Sunder while dealing with her feelings for Gopal.
The film features a soundtrack of music composed by Shankar-Jaikishan, with lyrics by Shailendra and Hasrat Jaipuri. The film features the everlasting tunes by playback singers Lata Mangeshkar, Mukesh, Mohammed Rafi and Mahendra Kapoor. There is one instrumental by India’s first electric guitarist Van Shipley.
Admission is free and the film’s running time is 238 minutes.
