(Barbados Nation) Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) staff are seeing red after the popular Socaholics launch scheduled for yesterday evening was cancelled because of a colour choice.
SUNDAY SUN investigations revealed the plug was pulled on the event after staff were told to wear the colour “red”.
“One of the organizers of Socaholics sent out an email telling staff to come out to the event on Saturday evening at Mount Gay, Spring Garden, and to wear festive colours such as red,” an upset employee stated.
The email was intercepted by a senior member of staff, who after seeing the choice of colour reportedly telephoned the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs and management of the state-owned station, and a decision was made to cancel the event.
The staff member said they were not informed of the reason for the cancellation but it was widely believed in-house that it was because of the colour.
“We are hearing that management felt it was poor judgement to tell staff to wear red because general elections are in the air and the colour is associated with the Barbados Labour Party.”
Socaholics is a major initiative put on by the CBC to get the corporation more involved with Crop Over events by promoting the music, the calypso artists and bands.
