(Barbados Nation) Don’t just help REDjet; help it spread its wings too, advises Barbados’ Ambassador to CARICOM Robert “Bobby” Morris.
On the eve of being involved in bilateral talks with Central American political powerhouse Mexico as part of the second Mexico-CARICOM Summit which begins today at the Hilton Barbados, Morris said that should Caribbean governments band together to assist the Barbadian-based low-cost carrier, it shouldn’t be just to put REDjet back in the air.
He said the move should instead to allow it to create new links with the region’s trading partners like South and Central America, so as to assist in strengthening trade opportunities in areas where Barbadian businesses can showcase their products.
According to Morris, simply putting up money to join LIAT as an intraregional airline that caters to Caribbean movement could backfire in the current economic environment, since LIAT, already subsidized by Barbados and Antigua, continues to lose money year after year.
