Chris Gayle’s Royal Challengers Bangalore team yesterday crashed out of the Indian Premier League after they went down to the Deccan Chargers in a low scoring game in Hyderabad.
Royal Challengers Bangalore were undone by a pair of South Africans in the batting and bowling departments.
When they batted, Deccan Chargers were indebted to JP Duminy for their eventual total.
Duminy top scored with 74 off 53 balls. He blasted five sixes and four fours as the Deccan Charges closed their innings on a paltry 132-7 off their allotted 20 overs.
Three of Duminy’s sixes came in a single over from Muttiah Muralitharan which cost 20.
Only two other batsmen reached double figures, Parthiv Patel with 16 and Kumar Sangakkara with 15.
Gayle began RCB’s challenge like a house on fire taking 24 runs off the second over of the innings bowled by Manpreet Gony.
But another South African Dale Steyn effectively tilted the match his team’s way when he forced Gayle to bottom edge a delivery onto his stumps after the West Indies batsman was forced to duck from the previous delivery.
Steyn was virtually unplayable and only eight runs were scored off of his four overs. For good measure he also picked up three wickets.
Virat Kohli top scored for RCB with 42 while Saurabh Tiwary scored 30 and Gayle 27.
No other batsman reached double figures.
