Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar reportedly fell ill in Barbados where she was attending the Mexico-Caricom Summit at the Hilton Hotel, according to the Barbados Nation.
The Prime Minister was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) last evening, the newspaper said.
It said acting Prime Minister in Trinidad Jack Warner confirmed that Persad-Bissessar was taken to the hospital for tests but did not give any details.
According to the Trinidad Guardian, Warner issued a statement last evening in which he said he had been advised that Persad-Bissessar had been admitted to the QEH. He said he had spoken to the PM just before her admission.
“At this point in time the Prime Minister is undergoing a battery of tests. I have advised the Prime Minister’s family of the situation and have promised to keep them updated as further reports come in,” the Guardian quoted Warner as saying.
“I have made contact with the Prime Minister of Barbados who has assured me that he would do everything possible to ensure her comfort and care. On behalf of the nation I wish to express our gratitude to the Honourable Prime Minister of Barbados for his kind assurances and support. I join with the nation in extending our sincerest wishes for the Prime Minister’s speedy recovery.”
