National Chess Champion Taffin Khan is the winner of the Caribbean Containers FIDE rating tournament which ended on Sunday at Olympic House.
Khan finished on eight and one half points and was followed by junior player Anthony Drayton with 6.5 points. Third was former national junior champion Cecil Cox and president of the Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) Shiv Nandalall with six points each.
Taffin’s father, David Khan, finished on 5.5 points while national junior champion Haifeng Su was fifth with 4.5 points. Ryan Singh and Sham Khan were tied on 2.5 points followed by Kana Khan and Ron Motilall on two and one point respectively. Drayton, Su, Cox, Sham Kahn, Kana Khan and Ron Motilall are all eligible for FIDE ratings which will increase Guyana’s pool of rated players from four to 10. The current pool of rated players are all seniors namely: Taffin Khan, 1809, Nandalall (1715), Ryan Singh (1456) and David Khan (1386).
The GCF said that the ratings would be available in a few months after the results have been submitted to FIDE.
