Dear Editor,
For some strange reason there are some people who cannot see that there is a new dispensation and business as usual is over.
The Ministry of Local Government will be visiting Kwakwani on Wednesday, May 23 to conduct an inquiry into the functioning of the Kwakwani Neighbourhood Democratic Council and possibly to install an Interim Management Committee. This exercise is expected to involve the residents of Kwakwani, but up to the time of writing (at 19:30h, May 21) there is no public notice by way of flyer or notice on our television to inform the residents of this.
How can exercise as important as this not be properly advertised so that residents can be prepared to give accurate information on what is taking place in the community? As a concerned resident, I was forced to enquire about the rush to install an IMC, only to find out that a petition had been prepared by an officer within the sub-region office of the RDC who got some residents to sign the document. This officer‘s conduct is unprofessional and must be condemned.
Kwakwani does not want hand-picked persons to function as councillors. And the results of the 2011 regional and general election will show that Kwakwani residents are not comfortable with how the community and country is being managed.
We are prepared to wait for local government elections so that we can elect our local representative, and if they fail to function we must be allowed to change them.
Yours faithfully,
Jocelyn Morian
