Recent winners of the Under-13 singles competition of the annual Youth Week tournament Jamaali Homer and Elishaba Johnson will spearhead the Guyana team to this year’s Caribbean pre-cadet table tennis championships scheduled for Jamaica from July 20-26 the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) announced yesterday.
Homer will be supported by Priscilla Greaves and Kristie Lopes while Kyle Edghill, Rajiv Muneshwar and Miguel Wong are the other U-13 players.
Johnson, Edghill and Muneshwar were members of the 2009 team which won a gold medal in the boys’ 10 years and under category.
According to the release from the GTTA, the team has “commenced training under a rigid and structured training programme” aimed at having the players peak for the engagement.
Some parents of some of the players selected have commenced fund raising activities in an effort to raise funds for the engagement, the release stated.
Meanwhile, the parents of players selected are invited to meet with the executive of the GTTA, this evening from 6pm.
The full team reads: – Girls U-13 – Homer, Greaves, and Lopes. Boys U-13- Johnson, Edghill, Muneshwar, Wong. Girls 11-years and under – Neveah Clarkston, Salanas Jackman, Abigail Martin and Simran Bissou. Boys: 11 years and under – Jeremy Singh, Tyriq Saunders, Khalil Ninvalle and K Rauche. Stand-by – Nyron Bissou.
The coaches named are Colin France, Idi Lewis, Dwain Dick Linden Johnson and Muniram Persaud.
