The 12-year-old boy who was struck down by a minibus along the Friendship, East Bank public road three weeks ago has been transferred from the Intensive Care Unit to the Paediatric Ward, a sign of improvement, relatives said.
Mohamed ‘Kevin’ Ramnarine, of Lot 37 ‘C’ Dam, Friendship, East Bank Demerara, was on May 1 flung some ten feet away after being hit by a Linden/ Soesdyke bus which was at the time transporting passengers to Georgetown.
The child was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre from where he was subsequently transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Doctors had indicated to his family that he was in a very critical condition. He remained in a coma up till Sunday last when he opened his eyes for the first time since the accident, giving his mother a little hope.
A relative yesterday told Stabroek News that although the child is not speaking and is unable to eat, his condition has improved tremendously. “He catch he self and come out of the coma… he is doing good,” she said.
The woman further stated that he is still using saline and other treatment but his general appearance is better. “They are still feeding him through his nose but he is looking better. So far, so good,” she added.
She said that they have so far heard nothing about the driver of the minibus which was involved in the accident nor could she say whether he had contacted other family members.
