Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday remanded a miner to prison after he pleaded guilty to break and enter at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
Seon Kirton, 24, was yesterday remanded to prison after he pleaded guilty to break and enter.
Kirton pleaded guilty to removing a gas bottle, three plastic barrels and a bed sheet, valued a total of $62,500 from the home of Dennis Barker.
Kirton is said to be known to the virtual complainant, and during May 19-22 he broke and entered Barker’s house located at D’urban Backlands and removed the items.
Barker who was on the East Coast at the time, subsequently received information that Kirton had gone into his home and removed the items. Barker subsequently confronted Kirton in the vicinity of Mandela Avenue with the gas bottle in his possession and an argument ensued between the parties.
Barker then stopped a passing police patrol and reported the matter. The bed sheet was also subsequently retrieved from the accused.
After the facts of the matter were read by the prosecution, Kirton told the court that he and Barker are cousins, and he had gained entry into the house with a key Barker had left with a male friend.
He said that Barker accused him of breaking and entering his home and began abusing him.
Kirton also noted that he used to work with Barker who never paid him.
The man said he then became angry and removed the gas bottle since he used to work with Barker and was never paid, but was abused by him.
The magistrate then asked Kirton if he had any previous brushes with the law and he replied that he was before the courts previously for loitering and assault.
The magistrate then ordered a probation report to be produced to the court before she decides his fate.
Kirton is scheduled to return to court on June 1.
