Dear Editor,
At present there is a lot of mud being dug up at Diamond EBD to make way for the four-lane road, and due to the rain the place is quite muddy. While waiting for transportation opposite the Diamond Hospital on the eastern side on May 18, an earth-moving machine (Hymac) approached from the north. This monster kept coming towards a woman and me, both waiting for a minibus. Realizing that we will be struck by this machine we were forced to move out of the way and step into the mud.
As the machine passed I saw that the operator was a youth, I say youth because to my mind that operator could not have been more than twenty years old. The woman next to me remarked ‘Is dem lil boy BK employ to work dem machine.’ In spite of how well that youth could handle levers and gear shifts, he is too young and inexperienced to operate that kind of machine; people like him will be more of a hindrance than a help to the road-building process and a danger to pedestrians.
Yours faithfully,
WP George
