(Barbados Nation) Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Charles Leacock has called on companies and other institutions to stop hiding white collar crimes in an attempt to protect the image of their businesses.
Leacock made the call last night as he addressed the annual general meeting of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Barbados (ICAB) at Hilton Barbados.
The DPP told the accountants the low level of police investigations and prosecutions by his office were directly linked to under-reporting of white collar crimes by victims – usually banks and other corporate entities.
“In the corporate world, the biggest problem is the lack of reporting by victims,” he said.
