HPS and Cabinet Secretary Dr Roger Luncheon said Cabinet this week offered no objections to four contracts including one for one $100M for the fibre optic cable project which is part of the Government’s Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) sector.

According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release, in the agriculture sector, US$132,000 was green-lighted for the supply and delivery of 53 bulls under the Agricultural Export Diversification Programme.
In the education sector, no objections were offered to a US$407,586 contract for the procurement of books for the public education system under the Education for All Fast Track Initiative (EFA/FTI) project.
Dr Luncheon also said the go-ahead was given for a $100M contract for electric works for the repeater stations as part of the installation of fibre optic cables from Lethem, Region Nine to Providence, East Bank Demerara for the LCDS.
In addition, in the public works sector, no objections were offered for the provision of consultancy services for the updating of the feasibility and design studies for the road from Vreed-en-Hoop to Parika, West Coast Demerara.
This contract is valued US$498,000, GINA said.
