Spartans, Old Fort, Hikers and GCC emerged winners in the Bryden and Fernandes-sponsored Indoor Hockey Tournament which started yesterday at the National Gymnasium.
In the first match of the tournament between the females, Spartans secured a 5-1 victory over Hikers Diva. Scoring for Spartans were: Marzana Fiedtkou with three goals in the 15th, 31st and 38th minutes, Gabriella Xavier in the 35th minute and Ashley DeGroot in the 36th minute. Scoring the lone goal for the Hikers Divas was Tremayne Junor in the 40th minute.
The second match between two second division teams GCC and Hikers ended in a two-all draw with Colonel Heywood scoring two goals for Hikers in the 24th and 26th minutes, while Steven Xavier and Trevon Smith scored in the 10th and 34th minutes.
Old Fort defeated Saints by a 4-2 margin, with Deon Carew scoring two goals in the 25th and 39th minutes. Michael Hunte scored in the 19th minute followed by Dwight McCalmon in the 36th minute. Hilton Edwards and Leory Jack scored for Hikers in the 1st and 33 minutes respectively.
The fourth match of the night saw Hikers defeating Supernovo 5-3. Scoring for Hikers were Colonel Heywood with two goals in the 3rd and 24th minutes followed by Robert France with another two goals in the 27th and 33rd minutes. Randy Hope scored the final goal.
For Supernovo, Mark Fraser scored in the 18th minute, Yonnick Peter in the 28th and Trevon Younge in the 34th minute.
The last match of the evening brought together old rivals, Old Fort and GCC and it was every bit exciting as predicted but in the end GCC came out on top with a 5-2 victory.
Scoring for GCC was Dwayne Scott with two goals in the 8th and 38th minutes, Stuart Gonsalves in the 23rd and 27th minutes followed by Kevin Spencer in 37th minute.
John Abrams and Dwight McCalmon scored for Old Fort in the 20th and 32nd minutes respectively.
The competition continues today at the same venue with several matches.
