Executives of the Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) Local Organizing Committee (LOC) which is responsible for the upcoming home games for the 2014 World Cup Qualifiers for the Golden Jaguars gave the media an update yesterday about its recent activities in the boardroom of the Providence National Stadium.
The Golden Jaguars will tackle Costa Rica, El Salvador and Mexico in three home matches at the Providence National Stadium on June 12, September 11 and October 12 respectively in the third round of the CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers.
The national team is scheduled to play Mexico in Mexico City on June 8, and El Salvador and Costa Rica on July 9 and November 9 in away games.
Sitting at the head table was Deputy General Secretary George Rutherford, General Coordinator Kirk Douglas and GFF World Cup Media Manager Troy Peters.
Rutherford was acting on behalf of GFF president Franklin Wilson and General Secretary Noel Adonis who are both in Hungary for FIFA meetings.
During the briefing, matters such as security and assessment of venues were addressed, according to Douglas, as these are major concerns of FIFA.
Douglas stated that FIFA is impressed with the organization’s progress thus far and is fully supporting them.
The General Coordinator disclosed that since Guyana advanced from the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) leg and has entered the CONCACAF stage, a match inspector was sent to assess the venue’s adequacy to host the three games.
During the inspection, it was disclosed that the use of the mound for spectators is prohibited because by FIFA’s standard each seat for a spectator must be bolted down.
Douglas stated that aspects such as vending, broadcasting and spectator control have all been taken care of and will be properly supervised by FIFA personnel.
Also at the briefing, the executives also reiterated that there will be a ‘No Exit’ policy in place. This means that once a person enters a stand, they cannot exit and be readmitted unless they re-purchase a ticket.
Admission for each game will cost $3,000 while parking passes will be sold for $1,000, both of which can be purchased at Ashmin’s Trading.
