Travis Fraser and Damien Ross will match gloves in the headline bout of the amateur segment of the 23rd edition of the Guyana Fight Night Pro Am which boxes off at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on June 1.
This junior welterweight bout as well as details of the amateur under card, was recently disclosed by executives of the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) and the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC).
Fraser, 17, who trains at the Tiger Eye Gym in Berbice, will be looking to make a name for himself against Ross who is a seasoned campaigner. Ross, 23, has been out of the ring for quite some time and is currently hard at work at the Andrew ‘Sixhead’ Lewis Gym to resurrect his once budding amateur career.
On the undercard, Shaka Moore of Essequibo Boxing Gym will take on Tyron Lashley of Rose Hall Jammers in an 85 to 89 pound bout. Another 85 to 89 pound encounter will pit Michael April (Tiger Eye Gym) against Orin Bancroft of Harpy Eagles Gym.
The under card will also feature Anton Branch (Harpy Eagles) matching gloves with Five Star Gym product Matthew Hollingsworth (110 to 114 pounds).
All bouts are scheduled for three rounds.
Meanwhile, the professional segment of the card will be headlined by Undefeated World Boxing Council (WBC) CABOFE welterweight champion Simeon ‘Candy Man’ Hardy and former European middleweight champion Howard ‘Battersea Bomber’ Eastman in a junior middleweight 10-round match-up.
The under card will feature Trinidad and Tobago-based Guyanese Iwan ‘Pure Gold’ Azore matching gloves with undefeated CABOFE junior welterweight champion Barbadian Miguel ‘Hands of Stone’ Antoine in a six-round junior welterweight contest.
Rudolph Fraser will face Cassius ‘Classy’ Matthews in a four-round lightweight encounter while James Walcott, a seasoned campaigner, will be up against young Kelsie George in a four-round grudge match. Walcott and George have thrown several verbal jabs at one other in the past and will have a chance to settle the score on Friday night.
According to executives of the board, the card, which is normally held on the last Friday in each month, was pushed back because of Independence Day celebrations.
The monthly card is an initiative of the GBBC in collaboration with the Sports Ministry and the National Communications Network (NCN).
Sponsors of the event include Digicel, Giftland Office Max, Courts, Banks DIH Limited and ANSA McAL.
Admission is $1,000, while children will be asked to pay half price. Bell time is 20:00 hrs.
